As part of #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth, we hosted a Facebook Live discussion to talk about postpartum depression. We discussed its prevalence, signs that you may be suffering from it, and how to seek help. _ #Postpartumdepression affects one in seven women, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Alejandra Salazar, M.D., an obstetrician and gynecologist with Baptist Health Medical Group, says that while 14 percent of women experience varying levels of postpartum depression, only 10 percent report it to their doctor. _ Dr. Salazar urges her patients and other women to speak up about their bothersome mental feelings, even if the baby hasn't yet been born. #Peripartum depression is less known about but almost always continues through the postpartum phase. Both the disease and #cancer treatments can affect the body’s capacity to tolerate foods and absorb nutrients. However, a basic approach to #nutrition cannot address the complex and varied needs of patients experiencing different types of cancer, stages of the disease and treatments. Enter the oncology nutritionist. These nutrition specialists are trained to assess and provide nutritional interventions, looking at the needs of patients individually, said Claudia Ferri, a registered dietitian specializing in oncology nutrition at Miami Cancer Institute. This evidence-based use of “food as medicine,” she said, is an integral part of treatment and recovery. “There’s no one type of nutritional approach that fits everybody,” Ms. Ferri said. “The key is an individualized approach. Ceviche & Popcorn? Yes, please! This refreshing, citrus recipe is easy to make ahead of time and it even tastes better when left marinating overnight. It’s perfect to keep you fueled for long beach or pool days and summer gatherings. #BaptistHealthy 🍤🍿 🍽: @carladuenas _ *Ingredients* 1 lbs. shrimp 1/2 cup lime juice 1/2 red onion, diced ¼ cup chopped cilantro 1/4 cup frozen orange juice concentrate 1/4 cup ketchup 1 pinch salt _ *Directions* 1.Boil water to cook shrimp for a few minutes, until pink. 1.Boil water to cook shrimp for a few minutes, until pink. Remove from water and let shrimp cool down. Set water aside.
2.In a bowl, mix together orange juice concentrate, ketchup and, onion, cilantro, salt and 1/3 cup of shrimp stock. Once combined, add shrimp and chill for 2 hours.
3.Serve with popcorn and hot sauce, per taste.
